Where to Find Contests and Sweepstakes

1. Carry a small notepad and a pen

Always carry a pen and a small note pad, to write down any contest and sweepstakes entry information that you happen upon. We all have good intentions of remembering all the details, but inevitably with so much information we are presented with each day, we just plain forget a lot of details that we want to remember. Writing it down ensures we keep the information for when we need it, and that we don't just forget about it.

Write down the name of the contest or sweepstakes, how to enter, where to find more information, and any website name (URL) for the contest or sweepstakes.

Important: If you are driving and want to write information down about a contest or sweepstakes, ensure you first pull safely to the side of the road and stop in a safe place, or wait until you have stopped driving. Safety while driving is always the priority, for yourself and for others.

2. Shopping

Grocery stores, drugstores, convenience stores, supermarkets, and fast food outlets are great places to find contests and sweepstakes.

Stores often have displays set up promoting a contest or sweepstakes. They also often put contest and sweepstakes entry forms on the isle shelves to promote certain products or companies. If you have the time to develop this skill, you can learn to quickly scan from top to bottom the isle shelves at a glance that you pass by, finding contests and sweepstakes that are on entry forms or even listed on the packaging of products.

So, the question now is which are the products in stores where you can frequently find contests or sweepstakes details on the product packaging? Well, it seems that the some product categories might seem to have more frequent contests or sweepstakes than some other categories.

  • Frequent contests and sweepstakes in the following product categories:
    • cereals
    • chocolate bars (and candy)
    • pop (soda)
    • alcohol (beer, rum, vodka, wine)
    • potato chips (and nacho chips, and popcorn)
    • cookies
  • Less frequent contests and sweepstakes in the following product categories:
    • chewing gum
    • yogurt
    • cheese
    • crackers
    • soups
    • cake mixes
    • ice-cream
    • pizza
  • There are other product categories as well that perhaps offer contests and sweepstakes, but in general don't seem to offer contests or sweepstakes as frequently.
    • laundry detergent
    • dish washing detergent
    • eggs
    • juices
    • toilet paper
    • facial tissues

If you have the time and desire, you may want to go shopping a few times a week to a few different stores. You could develop a strategy to not only shop for items you need that are on sale to save money, but also to find contests and sweepstakes.

3. Magazines

A lot of the popular magazines have a contest or sweepstakes advertised in almost every issue. Some issues even have multiple contests and sweepstakes advertised. You can develop a skill to quickly scan through a magazine looking for contests and sweepstakes. Usually the contests and sweepstakes are not sponsored by the magazine publishers themselves, but rather advertisers of products in the magazines.

Current magazines can be found at newsstands, grocery stores, supermarkets, convenience stores, drugstores, even through subscriptions. Don't buy too many magazines, as they do cost money. To save money, you can visit your local library, as some libraries carry some current magazines you could scan through looking for contest and sweepstakes information. Or even ask relatives, friends, and co-workers if you can read their magazines once they are finished with them, so you can scan for contests and sweepstakes. Remember not to waste your time scanning magazines more than a month or two old, as each contest and sweepstakes is only open for a limited time.

4. Radio

Many of the big radio stations (even some of the smaller ones) have numerous contests throughout the year. Like most people, you probably listen to the radio mostly in the car when you are driving. Again, if you are driving and want to write information down about a contest or sweepstakes, ensure you first pull safely to the side of the road and stop in a safe place, or wait until you have stopped driving. Safety while driving is always the priority, for yourself and for others.

If you are lucky enough to be able to listen to the radio at your workplace, it's a great way to listen for those dial-in to win contests to be the lucky caller.

5. Newspapers

Most of the big city newspapers advertise contests and sweepstakes. Not every day mind you. But if you get the paper each day or even just on weekends, you can develop a skill to quickly scan through the pages looking for contests and sweepstakes.

To save money, you can visit your local library, as some libraries carry some current newspapers you could scan through looking for contest and sweepstakes information. Or even ask relatives, friends, and co-workers if you can read their newspapers once they are finished with them, so you can scan for contests and sweepstakes. Remember not to waste your time scanning newspapers more than a week old, as each contest and sweepstakes is only open for a limited time.

6. TV

Try not to watch too much TV, but often there are contests and sweepstakes advertised through TV. Keep that pen and notepad handy to write down the details of the contest or sweepstakes as you see them, and the address of where to mail an entry to (or the website to enter from).

7. Internet

There are sites like ours (lots-of-luck.com) that are all about contests and sweepstakes, and have listings of contests and sweepstakes to enter. It saves time for visitors in doing their own searching, as often searches done on your own using search engines to find contests and sweepstakes come up with outdated ones and expired links. This can waste a lot of time.

Even just surfing the net from site to site during your regular daily computer use, you may come across a contest or sweepstakes link that is currently being conducted.
